Upcoming events

Hello families!

We have a busy next few weeks!  Please be aware of our upcoming events!  We have 7 upcoming district/state tests.  (MAP and SBAC)  Please make sure you are aware of the testing dates and have your child here at school well-rested, fed, and ready to do their best!

We have 2 birthday celebrations left in the year.  April birthdays will be celebrated on Friday, April 24th and May birthdays will be celebrated on Friday, May 8th.  If your child has a summer birthday (June, July, or August), please feel free to celebrate with us on either of our remaining dates.  You are not required to send in a treat, but if you would like to, the kids enjoy it!  Please help us keep the treats healthy!

A letter was sent home this week about our Rendezvous field trip, May 15th.  If you did not see the green paper, here is a link you are welcome to print and send back:  Rendezvous Letter
Letters/$5 are due back by Thursday, April 23rd.

Our fish release will be after school on Wednesday, April 22nd starting at 4:15.  The Idaho Department of Fish and Game will have their fish trailer at McDevitt Pond until 8pm for free fishing!  Come join the fun!  Families, friends, and neighbors are welcome!

Our field day is coming up on Friday, May 29th.  We will be attending the morning session.  If you are interested in helping, please let me know!  I will need to have 6 volunteers from our classroom to help!

I have updated our classroom information for next week.  *Remember there is no school next Wednesday, April 15th.  It is a teacher in-service day.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Testing coming soon!

Hello families!

I wanted to make you aware of the upcoming testing, fish release/dissection, and happenings within the next month.

Students will be taking 3 MAP tests (reading, math, and language) as well as 4 SBAC tests (a math and reading Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) and a reading and math computer essay tests) over the next 6 weeks.  Our class will begin on April 22, but several students who work in a small-group setting will begin the MAP testing on Monday or Tuesday of this upcoming week.

Please encourage your student to do their best!  It helps to start the day after a good-night's sleep and a good breakfast.

Mr. Lamansky (our fish biologist) was in this week.  He will be returning on April 22nd to dissect fish with us in class.  Students will be working in pairs on this project, but if they truly do not want to participate, it is not mandatory.  They can just observe, or go into a different classroom if needed.

After school that day, we will be releasing the trout we have been raising into McDevitt Pond (at the corner of Eagle Rd. and McMillan Rd.).  We will do this around 4:15-25ish...as soon as I can get the fish out of the tank and drive there!  That is a "Fishing Trailer" day at the pond.  The Fish and Game Department will be there with rods/bait for anyone to use until 8pm as well!  Families are welcome to come and help release our trout as well as spend time outdoors fishing.  Hope everyone will be able to make it!

Have a great weekend!

Welcome back from break!

Hello families!
I hope everyone had a restful week off!  I know it was sure nice to be home with my family!  (I even became an aunt again last Friday with the birth of my 7th niece!)

I have updated the blog with upcoming events, the "Looking Ahead" tab, and the volunteer calendars for the remainder of the year. (Please note the volunteers calendars are subject to change once I find out the official testing dates for SBAC and MAP testing.)

Reading calendars are due on Wednesday (We are so close to the million minutes!).  The Leadership Group students will be meeting next week on Monday, April 6th after school.

Have a great night!

March-A new trimester!

Hello families!

We have a lot going on this week!  Please take a minute to look at the upcoming events for the week.

On Monday reading calendars are due, there is a Student Leadership Group meeting after school, and a reading night put on by our fabulous PTA at 6:30!  I hope to see all of you there!

After school on Tuesday, is a PTA meeting in the health room at 4:00.

Wednesday, students need to bring their best smile for class pictures!  Forms were sent home last week to purchase pictures.  If you can't find the order form and you would like one, just send in a check or cash to "Parker Portraits" for $8.50.  Everyone will be in the class picture.  Fourth grade will be going first (due to Challenge students leaving) so please do not let your student be late.  I don't want them to miss the picture!  If you want individual pictures taken, we have to have written notice of that.  Another form was sent home for that with the class picture order form.

Thursday after school, report cards will be available on-line.  I have started putting in a few grades, but nothing will be official until Thursday.  Not many families have looked at their child's 1st trimester report card from November.  (14 out of 32 families) I am asking that everyone please take a few minutes to see how your child is doing in class.  It is important that every parent take an active role in how their child is doing at school!

I have updated the new volunteer calendar for the month.  I am still looking for someone to help us on Thursday, March 12th.  If you would like to come in, please let me know!  Also, if you are not listed, but would like to come in anytime to help, please let me know when you would like to come in and I will put you to work! ;)

Have a great week!

End of Trimester 2

Hello families!

We are coming to the end of another trimester!  Next Friday, February 27th, there will not be school so that teachers can work on report cards.  Just like before, we will not be sending home a hard copy of your child's report card.  We ask that you log-on to view grades.  If you have lost your log-in, please let me know and I can send home another copy!  If you are unsure how to log on, stop by one day after school and I am happy to help you set up your student's account!  I will let you know what day your student's grades will be finalized.

I have updated the "Upcoming Events" list with everything I could think of from now until the end of school!  If anything needs to be added, or you have any questions, please let me know!

The "Looking Ahead" tab has been updated for this week's learning.  I have also added some more artwork to look at!  We are working on our Space Art now and I will add pictures of that once we finish.  :)

Finally, thank you to all the kind parents who sent food/supplies in for our party last week!  You are fantastic!!

Have a great week!

February

Hello families!

I have updated our "Looking Ahead" tab and the "Volunteer" tab for February.  If you would like to be added to the volunteer calendar, just let me know!

I have set up a sign-up sheet for our Valentine/February birthday party.  We will be watching a movie, opening up our valentine cards, and eating!  If you would like to help with treats, please click on the following link:

If your student would like to bring valentine notes to the class (we have 32 students), we will be making bags to put them in the week of Valentines.  I ask that they are not brought in until after the 9th (because we will not have the bags made until then).

If you need a list of students, click on the following link:
Class valentine list

Do you have any empty plastic bottles at home?  We are going to be doing an experiment with our fish tank this week and we are in need of some water bottles with secure lids.  Preferably larger than a 16 oz bottle, but smaller than a 2 liter...although those would work too.  :)  If you have 1 or 2, please send them in with your student.

Finally, don't forget, if your child is part of the Leadership Group, they will be meeting tomorrow (Monday, Feb. 2nd) after school!

Have a great evening!
